Protein Structure
As a researcher in scientific
computing, Dr. O'Leary's work has centered on computational
biology. Image processing is one major theme, using methods
for solving integral equations to restore images and give
confidence estimates on the restoration.
Collaboration with pathologists has centered on clustering
and classification of cytology samples and karyotyping chromosomes,
using standard statistical methods as well as hidden Markov
models and new algorithms. More recently, Dr. O'Leary's efforts
have focused on using numerical optimization algorithms to
determine protein configurations.
